Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
This hotel has such a kooky lobby and is known for having nice long beds (great for tall people!)
There is a shuttle to the Disney Resort Liner (or you can just walk for 5 mins to the Resort Liner station.)
Rooms are bigger than most Tokyo hotel rooms. This hotel offers cots / cribs for guests – but only for babies who are not yet able to stand. See here for my list of hotels that have cots for babies older than 12 months of age.
This hotel has an outdoor pool but it is only open from the first week of July through to mid-September. There is an indoor pool open year round. The pool is not free for guests (can cost as much as 6000 yen per person per day- less if you sign up to be a OneHarmony member (the hotel loyalty program – can be used at Okura and Nikko Style Hotels too- sign up is free.) Children in swimming diapers are allowed to swim here.
This is just one of my recommended hotels near the Tokyo Disney Parks. See here for my full list.

I only recommend staying at this hotel if you are visiting the Tokyo Disney area as it’s quite a commute into the main parts of Tokyo. This is very much an “either side of Disney days” spot.
It’s not a fancy hotel but it does have everything you could need for a day at the Disney Parks. Apologies to this hotel but I recommend not getting a breakfast included package as you will be out at the park early (if you like rides like we do and are aware of how the fast pass system works). It’s SO lovely and close to the parks and I LOVE how there is a direct airport limousine bus from Narita and Haneda Airports right to the hotel – with kids – so nice! We took the limousine bus from Haneda and it took just 25 mins AND they put our luggage under the bus! – no need for looking for train platforms or even working out how to get there!
So so so good!
There is also a Japanese sushi restaurant within the hotel. They also do takeout so you could always have sushi back in your room anytime. It is called Tamakagari.
Reserve the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama for your family because:
-it’s so close to both Disney parks!
-they have their own airport limousine shuttle to and from Narita and Haneda airports
-they have a free shuttle to Maihama Station (just next to Tokyo Disneyland)
-they are 3 mins walk from the Tokyo Disney Liner’s Bayside Station
-they have BIG rooms (by Tokyo standards)
-they have longer beds than average so it is great if someone in your family is tall
-they have an indoor pool year round (although they don’t allow tattoos and pool use is extra)
-they have an onsite coin laundry
-they can provide a cot in the room (no additional charge) but only for kids younger than 12 months
There is a waiting area (called the Rainbow Lounge) just opposite the Front Reception where kids can sit and watch Disney movies while the adults are doing all of the check-in admin.
Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama IS an official Tokyo Disney Resort hotel so that means you can buy tickets to the parks at the front desk if you are a staying guest and you are guarranted that tickets won’t sell out (because there is a saved amount for guests. It is not one of the hotels that has 15 min early entry to the parks (personally, I don’t think that this is a game changer.
The free shuttle from the hotel to Maihama Station (the station right outside Tokyo Disneyland) and also to Bayside Station (the closest Tokyo Disney Resort Liner station) is such a nice touch. And I LOVE how they have a bakery food truck right at outside the shuttle stop too – you can grab a little something to eat while you’re waiting for the bus to come.
The free shuttle does’t go to Disneyland but it does go to the station OUTSIDE Disneyland (so it’s practically the same thing.)
It also stops at the Bayside Station (this is the Disney Resort Liner – monorail station and this DOES stop at Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disneysea.
We actually used the free shuttle to Maihama Station a couple of times but we walked to the Bayside Station and took the monorail (Disney Resort Liner) most of the time . The Bayside Station took us 3-4 mins to walk to from the hotel AND we bought a 3 day pass for the liner so could hop on and off whenever we liked. It was really quick, convenient and the liner train comes every 6 mins so it meant we never had to look at a timetable. I have written more about the Tokyo Disney Resort Liner here.
Is it possible to forward luggage to and from the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama?
Sure is! They have their own luggage forwarding desk right next to the reception desk. Read here if you’re not sure what the whole luggage forwarding thing in Japan is all about.
The rooms at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
The rooms at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama are big by Tokyo standards and the beds are longer than average so it’s a good option if you are tall.
I recommend getting a room with an ocean view, if you can – makes the room feel a bit bigger and more luxurious (the park side sounds like it would be nice but you can see the castle in the distance and a few of the fireworks at night but not a perfect view into Tokyo Disneyland or anything.
As I’m always honest, one of the 4 nights we stayed – there were cars literally racing on the road outside the rooms at 11pm-ish. The kids didn’t wake up but it was a bit noisy – I would totally stay here again though so I guess it didn’t really annoy me that much at all. If your kids are into cars it might actually be a “tokyo drift” experience? Maybe?
We stayed in a room type : <7-10 Floor> Rainbow Deluxe Twin Room with Bay View – Non Smoking and they gave us three separate beds ( it was me and my two kids.) There was also space in the room for one additional bed – had we needed it.
Hong Kong Disneyland from the balcony of our room at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
They gave us 3 beds for three people – as you can see – there is also a spot for a fourth bed. Every bed has its own shelf and power socket.
You can see some of our luggage in the picture. See here for the type of luggage I recommend for travel in Japan.
The bathrooms at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
The bathrooms are also big for Japan but are quite old and dated (but do have everything you need.) Our room had a bath with a shower above it AND a separate shower cubicle.
I know I’ll get lots of questions about bike shorts in Japan. I have answered lots of questions about what to wear in Japan here.
The swimming pool at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
This hotel has an outdoor pool but it is only open from the first week of July through to mid-September. There is an indoor pool open year round. The pool is not free for guests (can cost as much as 6000 yen per person per day- less if you sign up to be a OneHarmony member – sign up is free.) Children in swimming diapers are allowed to swim here. The pool is nice enough but it’s not amazing, by any means (ie. don’t book the hotel just for the pool but see it as a little bonus.) However, as hotels with pools in Tokyo aren’t that easy to come by – it’s a good option for summer.
It is busy here late at night so do a load of washing in the morning if you can. The general wash cycle is 15 mins long and then the dryer needs about 1 hour to dry clothing completely. The detergent is already added to wash automatically so no need for you to add or buy powder/liquid. Pay with coins (there is a change machine in the laundry room) or via credit card.
When you make a reservation, PLEASE don’t make a mistake and mix it up with the Grand Nikko in Odaiba. That one is not next to Disney.
Cornflakes from Seijo Ishii Supermarket, 7-Eleven low fat milk, Strawberry Jam from Seijo Ishii supermarket, Strawberry Milk, Cheesestick from 7-Eleven, Bread from Seijo Ishii Supermarket, Salad from Seijo Ishii, Bananas from Seijo Ishii, Margarine from Seijo Ishii, Vegemite and paper plates from the suitcase (here are my things to pack when coming to Japan with kids.)
See here for my hacks on making some throw together meals for kids from Japanese convenience stores and supermarket options (including a list of pantry staples.) See here for my guide on buying milk in Japan.
Where can I buy a swimsuit in the Tokyo Disney Area?
If you’ve forgotten your swimmers and need one for the pools at the hotels, there is a swimwear store inside the Ikspirari Complex outside of Maihama and Resort Gateway station (close to Tokyo Disneyland). It is called Local Motion Hawaii.
This is just one of my recommended hotels near the Tokyo Disney Parks. See here for my full list.
Are there convenience stores near the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama ?
Not really. Not real convenience stores that have the fried chicken or bentos and pasta. There are a few inside each of the hotels in the Disney area but if you want a 7-Eleven, you’ll need to take a taxi to one in Urayasu – 10 mins away.
If you need a supermarket, it’s best to go to the one I recommend in my Tokyo Disney Area article here.
There is a hotel “convenience store” on the first floor of the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama called First Shop that has the basics though. Sandwiches, rice balls, yoghurt, crackers, sweets, ice-creams and snacks.
This store also has small packets of nappies/diapers. See my Tokyo Disney Area with Kids article for even more spots nearby to buy diapers/nappies. They also sell baby food here – see here for more information on buying baby food in Japan.
There is also a 7-Eleven ATM inside this convenience store – the best way to withdraw cash while you’re in Japan on an international card.
You can also visit the convenience store in the lobby of the Hilton Tokyo Bay across the road (unlike the Toy Story Hotel, you don’t have to be a guest to go into the lobby.) Warning though -the Lawson convenience store in the Hilton Tokyo Bay is insanely busy between 9-11pm.
There is a Disney Store inside the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
It is called “Disney Fantasy.”
Where to buy coffee early in the morning while staying at the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama ?
If a coffee in a can won’t cut it, you can go across the road to the lobby of the Hilton Tokyo Bay. They have a coffee shop in the lobby called Bean By The Bay. It is open from 7am-10pm.
There is also a Starbucks at Maihama Station that opens at 7am.
Where to eat near the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama – see my long list of restaurants in the Tokyo Disney area here.
Super Family Friendly All-You-Can-Eat Sukiyaki (8 mins in a cab from Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama)
Syabu-yo Urayasu Higashino
When you dine here, you choose the amount of time they would like to have unlimited meat brought to their table (usually 60 or 90 mins) and that price also includes access to a salad and vegetable buffet and ice-cream. The instructions on how to make your meal at the table are here on the Syabu-Yo website but the staff will also help you. My kids prefer sukiyaki to shabu-shabu as it is so sweet and more-ish.
If everyone has different dietary requirements (for example if one family member is vegetarian etc) you’ll need to ask for separate pots or half /half as , otherwise, all the food is cooked in one pot. They have pots like the one pictured below that has two sections (that’s what I normally do.) This is mostly so you can cook two different flavours but it could also work for a meat side and a veg side too, I guess
Worried about language issues? DON’T ! You order everything on an ipad at the table in English!
To eat here I would budget for around 3000 yen per adult. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. Syabu-Yo accept most major credit cards. Even if you don’t eat meat – just order an all you can eat meat portion for you so you can take advantage of all of the other parts included (the salad and veggies and desserts). The all you can eat meats come out a tray at a time so you just order more as needed for the table anyway (within your all-you-can-eat time frame.)
*Dining etiquette tip: the giant chopsticks are for putting the meat into the hot pot. The normal chopsticks are for eating. This also means you don’t have kids eating off chopsticks that have touched raw meat.
If you like this restaurant – I’m pretty sure you will! Then you are in luck as you can always google your closest Syabu-Yo branch as they are all over Japan.
They have free wifi.
There is a change table in the bathroom at this restaurant. They also have the little robots that bring the meat to your table. My kids love this!
They do have high chairs here – they are the wooden type that clips on to the table (and it does have a strap to keep baby secure.)
I’ve never had to make a reservation at this store before. Just walked in. Budget 3000 yen per adult to dine here (you will leave SO full!) There is a big supermarket (it’s called R. Genki – open 10am-8pm) in the same complex so get sweets and treats to take home afterwards. There is also a 7-Eleven right across the road.

Playgrounds near the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama
This playground is just behind the Disney Ambassador Hotel or 7 mins walk from Ikspiari) is the Urayasu Athletic Park. This playground is 5 mins in a taxi from the Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama. This park is popular with local families on weekends. There are public restrooms here and ice-cream vending machines too!
