THE HYATT REGENCY HAKONE: OBSESSED

THE HYATT REGENCY HAKONE: OBSESSED

I would be sure to plan a night away at the Hyatt Regency in Hakone.
I have done this with my kids and the whole family and also for a girl’s getaway.
This is a Japanese style accommodation with a twist.  The rooms and the hot spring baths (sorry but girls and guys have to bathe separately here) are just so beautiful and relaxing.  The baths are open 24 hours a day.
I would make sure I was there for check-in at 3pm and leave right at midday the next day.  There are so many lovely things to see in Hakone, but I would keep this portion of the trip indoors. The hotel itself is the experience.
You can choose a Western style bedroom with tatami (gorgeous!) or go for a sleep on a futon together.
The main lobby of the hotel has a large wood pit which creates the most gorgeous cabin-like feel and the smell is just heavenly.

All guests are able to take advantage of the free-pour happy hour in the evening before dinner – approx 4000 yen per adult – sooo worth it.  It is just the most decadent way to spend the evening.
And for the kids, there are Disney books and a small library with a tv too.

And then, in the morning? The breakfast is five star.  All hot meals cooked to order and you can even eat sashimi – right from the start of the day!  When I was there a month or so ago, the chef served the same fresh fish 3 different ways – it was amazing.

And the onsen makes your skin feel soooo amazing.

When I went with my 5 year old she LOVED the onsen so much that we visited 3 times! She loved washing her body at the shower section first and then having a mini-swim with me.

If time allows, I recommend a trip to the Hakone Open Air Museum before or after your stay.
For other Hakone tips and ideas, see my post here.

If you drive there is a carpark here – if you are taking the train there is a shuttle bus service from a few local stations between 10am – 6:30pm daily ( no pets allowed on the bus and there are no child seats on the bus and for this reason – unfortunately they don’t allow children under 6 to ride.) See the shuttle to the Hyatt Regency Hakone details here.

If you have driven to Hakone, I recommend stopping at this playground for kids.

When booking a hotel in Japan with children, many people are confused as to why the hotel assumes they will share a bed with their children. I’ve done my best to try and answer this question here.
