I’m asked for my thoughts on the differences between the Ninja Cafe in Tokyo vs the Ninja Restaurant in Tokyo often. So I’ve decided to put the main differences here.

The Ninja Cafe is a ninja experience (mainly targeted at small children and their families.). The one I have been to is in Harajuku (just off Takeshita Street) although I believe there is another in Asakusa.
The Ninja Cafe is an experience for families and you can also eat some food while you are there.
You are given a drink before you start and then, afterwards, you can order a simple meal. Personally, I don’t recommend getting the food – you’re in Harajuku and there are so many other yummy options nearby by. Also, the experience is in the basement so it’s fab for throwing ninja stars etc but not particularly lovely for a meal out.
I recommend this experience for children younger than 10 years old (or older if they are BIG ninja fans.)

See here for other fun things to do with kids in the Harajuku area.
HOWEVER –
The Ninja Restaurant is a themed restaurant. Unlike many themed dining experiences in Japan – the food is actually quite good. Waiters are all ninjas and the food smokes and is in Ninja Star shapes etc.
This restaurant is actually quite hard to get a booking at so please book asap!
Please note that this restaurant does not accept children under the age of 6. They also don’t do special child menus so children will also need to order a course. I recommend budgeting for approximately 12,000 yen per person to dine here.
Please note that the Ninja Restaurant was previously located in Akasaka but has now moved to Otemachi (The Tokyo Station area – see here for other suggestions for things to with kids in this area.)
