PREPARING FOR SUMMER FIREWORKS FESTIVALS WITH KIDS

fireworks

There are too many fireworks festivals in Summer to list them all but I do want to share these points if you’re taking advantage of this Japanese Summer Tradition.
*Many people ask me about fireworks for New Years Eve in Japan and … actually… that doesn’t really happen as fireworks are a summer thing in Japan – I talk more about that here

To be best prepared make sure you

– wear light, breathable clothing – it will be hot.
– consider dressing up in yukata ( a light Summer kimono)
– take mosquito repellant – especially if you’re doing a river side fireworks viewing
– take your own picnic blanket and some snacks (although there will be food stands)
– take cash for food stalls and summer games
– make kids pee before you get into the busiest parts or ask them for lots of warning – there will be a queue
– expect that it will take a while to wander back to the station afterwards and enjoy it for what it is. The people watching and the mini-festivals off the big festival.
