THE GODZILLA SLIDE PARK

THE GODZILLA SLIDE PARK

The Godzilla Slide at Kurihama Flower World a is retro Japan slice of delight.  Although it is quite a distance from the centre of Tokyo (70 mins on the train and then a 15 minute walk or a few mins in a taxi from Kurihama Station), it is a full day event.  The park has the godzilla slide, a gigantic playground including a gigantic roller slide, a children’s train (flower train) to ride around the park and beautiful fields of flowers (of course, colours and varieties vary with each season.)

The Godzilla Slide is located in a section of the park called “Bouken Land” (Adventure Land).  There are lots of restrooms, change tables and places to buy snacks throughout the park.

*The Godzilla Park playground has been replaced and is now nicer than ever before ( Summer 2020!)

And when you first enter the park, you’ll see a gigantic field of flowers (colours changes depending on the season – my last visit was May 2018 and there were cosmos, poppies and blue nemophila).   Also, if you visit during the Children’s Day season (around Golden Week) you’ll see my favourite koinobori display (the flying carp kites) so far.

The park is so big that you’ll need to take the train to get around (one of my kids favourite parts of the day. ) Trains come past all of the bus stops twice an hour and it’s around 200 yen per ticket – for each time you board (regardless of how far you go. )
They let us fold up the stroller and take it with us on the train.

Godzilla is at the Bouken Land stop and the newest playground is at the Herb Garden stop.

This new gigantic slide opened March 11, 2018 and, even though it is big, the slide slows a lot at the end so I felt very safe letting my 3 year old ride alone.  We did this giant slide more than 8 times! Lots of exercise climbing up too.

The playground is also fantastic for kids of lots of different ages. My 5 year old spent most of the time on the flying fox.

In the same area as the new playground, you’ll find the free footspa (there aren’t those fish that eat your feet) it’s just for soaking feet.  It was so warm and lovely.

On the way out , at the bottom of the hill near the main entrance, we bribed treated our kiddies to a soft-serve ice-cream.  There are ice-creams flavoured with the flowers of the season ( surprisingly delicious but feels weird to eat something that smells like perfume.)
If your kids prefer the more traditional ice-cream flavours there are more options to the right of the big restaurant just by the main entrance.

Lots of sunscreen and hats etc
There is not a lot of shade at this park

Cash
You’ll need it for the train, the ice-cream, the vending machines etc
There are lots of little ‘cafes’ that sell treats and snacks. They also have outdoor toys like bubbles, skipping ropes, flying plane toys etc.

Easily slip on and off shoes if you’re keen on trying the free footspa

Lunch & a picnic mat
There are a few restaurants at the park but I prefer to spend our coins on ice-creams and drinks and bring our own lunch
