Lyf Shibuya Tokyo
Extremely affordable for a hotel in the heart of Shibuya for families. Modern hotel with everything families could need. In-house coin laundry, communal kitchen and lounge, gym and there is also free candy for kids in the lobby every single evening. They accept and can forward luggage.
This hotel is across the road from Parco (contains the Pokemon and Nintendo stores.) 3 mins walk to Hands department store ( a lot of my souvenir recommendations are from stores like Hands.) 6 mins walk to Shibuya Crossing and Shibuya Station. Rooms are small but modern, vibey and so nice and clean. Staff speak English really well. Rooms are for 2 or 4 people.

The staff at Lyf Shibuya Tokyo are SOOO nice.

The in-house coin laundry at **Lyf Shibuya Tokyo** . Some dryers in hotels in Japan take a really long time to dry the clothes but this one was really good! There is also an ironing board and several irons here.

*A little note on coin laundries in hotels in Japan. The detergent is almost always built into the machine. This is the case at Lyf Shibuya Tokyo . If someone in your family has allergies to certain washing powders it is probably best to email in advance to find out what they use and what your options are.

The communal kitchen area on the second floor of **Lyf Shibuya Tokyo**– for guests to use anytime. There is also a lounge area here so you can hang out anytime with friends or family who are staying in different rooms in the hotel

My **Lyf Shibuya Tokyo** room – this is a studio double. They do also have quad rooms with two double beds. You can see the foldable laundry hamper that I always have on my packing list for Japan.
The hotel provides pyjamas for guests to use while inside their rooms.

The in-room tvs are all set up so that you can easily log into netflix, prime video, hulu and youtube.

Is there a breakfast restaurant at Lyf Shibuya?
Yes. They use To The Herbs as their breakfast restaurant. It’s in the same building and has the most beautiful terrace. Read more about it below as I also recommend it for breakfast and lunch. It’s a breakfast buffet with a main meal of your choice delivered to the table. I chose the Japanese breakfast option.
Buffet options include scrambled eggs, sausages, muffins, bread, croissants, pastries, salad, cornflakes, granola.

Where to eat and shop near Lyf Shibuya Tokyo?

Excelsior Caffe, Shibuya Koen Dori Branch (2 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
This cafe is open from 8am in the morning. This chained is owned by the same company who own Doutor. If you are vegan, please check as many of the soy lattes here also include dairy. Last time I checked, the plain and blueberry bagels here are vegan.
See the Excelsior Caffe menu in English here. See the Excelsior Caffe breakfast menu in English here (sandwiches and toast.) This cafe has free wifi and places to plug in devices to charge. The caffe is non-smoking although there is an enclosed smoking booth. The cafe seats 57 people.

This is an Italian Restaurant called To the Herbs. To the Herbs is kid-friendly and I recommend budgeting 2000 yen per adult at lunch time and more like 4000 yen at dinner time. You can make a reservation or just try for a walk-in. They accept most major credit cards. The entire restaurant is non-smoking. They have space for strollers. My daughter likes the hamburger steak here. I like the Fruits of the Season Tomato Caprese.

Kinka Sushi (1 min walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
This izakaya welcomes kids. I have written all about it here. Kinka Sushi, Shibuya.

Fried skewers (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
For something casual and vibey, Kushikatsu Arata is a fantastic option. This is a chain of Japanese style lightly battered, fried and skewered meat and vegetables. They also are well loved for their tonkatsu here! There are also lots of seafood options. It is located in the Parco Department Store, not far from Shibuya Crossing. Shibuya Parco is the same store at the Pokemon and Nintendo stores.
I like the vibe in here. The decor is fun and retro with Japanese decor and posters.
I find this kind of way to eat to be easy when you have vegetarian diners with you as all ingredients can be ordered, on skewers, on their own.
It is possible to reserve a table here but, personally, if its just seats for two? I’d just try my luck. Unfortunately, it is not a non-smoking restaurant – I’ve never found it to be too bad but I also want to let you know, incase this is a deal breaker for you.)

Vegan Izakaya (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
Also in the Shibuya PARCO complex is a vegan izakaya (Japanese style casual pub) called Masaka.
Everything is vegan and I recommend trying the gyoza and “fried chicken.” I would expect to spend around 2000 yen per adult for lunch or dinner.
They do accept credit cards. The restaurant is non-smoking.

Vegan friendly Ramen (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
And one more vegan friendly option within Shibuya Parco basement is Jikasei Mensho, ramen spot. This is not a vegan restaurant but they do serve 4 types of vegan ramen – one of them is spicy ramen. On the flip side of vegan options, they also serve Wagyu Ramen. Sometimes you need to wait to dine here but it most definitely worth it if you are vegan. Go right at opening time to ensure you won’t have to wait long.
The spicy miso ramen is incredible and the Tan Tan Men is also so good.
Please note that this restaurant only accepts cash. Jikasei Mensho do not accept reservations. They do take most major credit cards. They do not accept cash. Budget for an adult dining here? Approx 2000 yen. Please be careful taking small children to ramen spots as the broth is very hot and space is limited.

Tempura & Tendon (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
Takao’s Hakata Tempura is on the 9th floor of Shibuya Parco. This restaurant is really yummy. They welcome children but they don’t have high chairs. Rice refills are complimentary at lunch time. Go outside traditional lunch and dinner hours for a less crowded restaurant (especially on weekends.) If you order tempura, you are served each piece as it is cooked fresh – so good! Budget approximately 2000 yen per person to dine here. They accept most major credit cards. They have an english menu. This is a walk-in restaurant only.

Yasai Tendon (vegetable tempura on rice)at Takao’s Hakata Shibuya, They give you a little jug of marinade and you can pour it over as much as you like – it makes the rice underneath also extra yummy.

Falafel Brothers is so delicious. So many vegan options and the falafel is made fresh. There is another Falafel Brothers branch in Roppongi. It is also on the 9th floor of Shibuya Parco. See the Falafel Brothers Shibuya menu here. They do have high chairs.
This is a walk-in restaurant only. They accept most major credit cards. Falafel Brothers also has an english menu. They also do takeaway.

Kiwamiya Hamburg (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
If you like this kind of vibey hamburger steaks cooked in front of you – you’ll love Kiyamiya. They don’t take reservations though so you’ll either have to just line up or you can just get there as they open. They accept most major credit cards. The entire restaurant is non-smoking.They have an English menu. They also have a Halal menu. The menu is simple- just hamburger steak or a flank steak rice and soup. It comes as a set and you must order one set menu per person to dine here.

The Pokemon, Godzilla & Nintendo Stores in Shibuya (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
And in the same building is the Pokemon Center Shibuya. (I’m using the American spelling of “centre” here because that is what is written at the actual store.) If you are looking for pokemon cards, they sell the booster packs here. There is also Card Kingdom in Shibuya (that I mention earlier in this article). If you are coming just for the Pokemon Center, I recommend putting Shibuya Parco into google maps instead of the Pokemon Center (I find the directions to be super unclear otherwise.) Of course, it’s usually super busy and it is full of more adults than kids. For me, that place is sensory overload but it sure makes my little boy happy.
I’m, personally, not into Pokemon merch but I did consider these pokemon make up sponges here.

Open from 10am -11pm. Please note that there are “smoking sections” of the restaurant on weekdays.
They have a low common allergens menu. No bookings. Walk-in only. They accept most major credit cards.

Many people miss Western style salads and green veg while travelling in Japan and one random suggestion is to order some small salads on the side at Denny’s in Japan for kids to nibble on.

It is a mixture of western style pizzas and Japanese pizza flavours. It’s really easy to get a vegetarian pizza here AND they also have a separate gluten free pizza station. See the full Shogun Pizza menu here. Budget 1500 yen per person to eat here. They also do takeaway – which you can order from their app ahead of time, if you’d like, and then collect. This is a walk-in only restaurant. They serve wine here. They also have free wifi. This restaurant is 6 mins walk from Shibuya Station.

Shop for Kokeshi Dolls (3 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya)
Kokeshi Base is on the same street, just a few doors down from Shogun Pizza. The whole store is wall to wall with Kokeshi dolls and the staff are SO beautiful. Kids and adults can paint their own Kokeshi Dolls ! Make an online reservation direct with the store here. You can also make a reservation using Get Your Guide here. Please note that you will need to go down a short staircase down to the shop so you will need to fold up a stroller to bring it down.

Pet Paradise – dog clothing & accessories
Just next to Kokeshi Base is a dog clothing and accessory shop called Pet Paradise. Pet Paradise is on Spainzaka Street in Shibuya has the CUTEST outfits for dogs. It’s just 4-5 mins walk from Shibuya Station.

Pomme no Ki, Omurice restaurant (4 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
This omurice restaurant welcomes kids. It’s mainly full of high school and university student aged teens though. Please note that this restaurant only accepts cash. This restaurant requires taking the stairs up to the second floor – if you have a stroller you will need to fold it and take it up with you – there isn’t any elevator access, unfortunately. Budget approximately 1000 yen per person to dine here. This restaurant has more than 40 variations on the standard Omurice dish (omelette filled with fried rice.) Side dish options include doria, sweet potato fries, sweet potato fries. There is a kids plate for 700 yen (a small omurice, a piece of fried chicken, a few veggies, some small hot dogs and a jelly.). If you are vegetarian, please be warned that the fried rice inside the omelette contains bacon so make sure you say bacon nashi onegaishimasu (without bacon please) when you order – I’m really sorry but I can’t guarrantee that they haven’t used chicken stock while cooking so if you’re strick vegetarian maybe another restaurant is a better option?. If you’re not sure what to order the most popular options are Premium Beef Stew Omurice, the Mozzarella Cheese Tomato Sauce Omurice and the Original Omurice with Chicken and Bacon.

This is a games/amusement centre in Shibuya called Adores. It is open from 10am. They have crane machines, arcade games, print club and a little kids game area. This arcade centre is open until 11:30pm. It is 4 mins walk from Shibuya Station.

Did you know that there is a big food hall / giant delicatessen right under Shibuya Crossing and Mark City Shibuya?
It’s called the “Tokyu Food Show” and you can access it using stairs around the crossing (for example, outside Ginza Cozy Corner cake shop) – the signs down are a dark green colour. If you need to get down to the underground food hall but need stairs, go to Mark City Shopping Complex (the same complex with the big Daiso store) and take an elevator. The Tokyu Food Show is open from 10am-9pm. Please remember that this is a food hall and NOT a supermarket* so it’s not supermarket prices – this is the kind of place Japanese locals would shop for special food items, something for a party or a fancy birthday cake etc. This is a fabulous place to grab ready cooked foods or salads or breads and take them back to your hotel. I also think it’s a fun walk through with kids to see what kinds of foods they sell – it’s a fabulous mix of Japanese food items and bentos as well as high end fruit and veg and western food options. There is also a Kaldi store here – an imported food store and they may have some food items that your kids are missing from home.
Remember to eat the food on the few tables and chair provided or take it back to your hotel. This is a fancy department store so walking and eating isn’t a thing here.
*There is a mini Seijo Ishi supermarket within the food hall though. This is one of my favourite brands of supermarkets in Japan.

Tacos Udagawa (4 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya Tokyo)
Tacos Udagawa is a great option for street tacos. Very casual (literally a food truck with some stools and tables out front.) I don’t recommend going after 9pm as it can get quite full of people in “post-party mode.” In case you have a hard time finding it, put Wagyu Niku Yokocho Shibuya into google maps.

Hawaiian Cafe & Bar Goodness ( 10 mins walk from Lyf Shibuya )
This cafe is above Shibuya Station. To get there, go to the Mark City Complex and go to the 4th floor (walk as if you’re going to the Shibuya Excel Tokyu – follow those signs and you’ll see the cafe on the right hand side.) Please note that this restaurant does not accept cash. Breakfast options includes an egg, bacon and pancake plate, a fruit, egg, bread and bacon plate and an acai and yoghurt bowl plate. Breakfast is served from 8am. Lunch and dinner here is all about burgers, pancakes, steak and salads. See pictures of the full menu at GoodNESS here.
