If you’ve been to parks and playgrounds in Tokyo with kids, you will know just how many spots have a “no ball play” sign. Most smaller neighbourhood parks have a strict “no ball games” rule.
So, it is slim pickings -but here are some options. I will add to this list as I find more.
Please note that Ueno Park is a place for kids to play but they don’t allow ball games.
If you are around in Japan and do get stuck for places for ball games – the shore at the beach is a fabulous option so I recommend heading to a shoreline and playing on the sand. Doesn’t need to be a pretty beach or anything.
For big parks in Tokyo to kick a soccer ball etc, I recommend visiting:
YOYOGI PARK IN HARAJUKU
Soccer games or big groups playing football etc is not allowed but a parent and child playing catch with a light ball is ok.
Some parts of SHINJUKU CHUO PARK
There is a Sports Corner of the Park where ball games are allowed.
KONAN SAN-CHOME ASOBIBA PARK
3-2-2 KONAN, MINATO-KU, TOKYO
There is a public toilet here. It is 12 mins walk from Shinagawa Station.
See other things to do with kids in the Shinagawa area.
KOMAZAWA OLYMPIC PARK
1-1 KOMAZAWA PARK, SETAGAYA-KU
I have written about this park and playground here.
AKABANE SHIZEN KANSATSU KOEN
This park is 15 mins walk from Akabane Station (West Exit)
