NUMAZU CLUB, SHIZUOKA

NUMAZU CLUB, SHIZUOKA

Numazu Club is an actual hidden gem. A properly hidden gorgeous resort in a sleepy country town in Shizuoka – a resort that feels more high end with a quality of customer service to match than many resorts of luxury hotels in Japan’s biggest cities.
This is an easy getaway for 1-2 nights when travelling from Tokyo.

Please note that Numazu Club welcome families with children who are 12 years and older.

How to reach Numazu Club from Tokyo?
This resort is an oasis in countryside Japan just 2.5 hours from Tokyo (whether you drive or take public transport.) The closest stations to Numazu Club are JR Numazu Station and Mishima Station (Mishima Station if you are taking a bullet train.) From Numazu Station, take a cab for 10 mins. From Mishima Station, take a cab for 20 mins.
Should you decide to drive*, there are plenty of car parking spaces. *If the weather is nice and clear, you will also see Mt Fuji on the way!

Numazu Club has been built around a traditional Japanese tea house. A tea house that was originally built in 1913 in the sleepy fishing town of Numazu. The tea house as been preserved beautifully and is kept in it’s original state (so much care is taken to keep all of that historical cultural magic in place) while the villas are modern, high end design. Designed by Akira Watanabe. Read more about the design and designers of Numazu Club in detail here.

The customer service is truly exquisite. The staff here speak English well and are more than happy to assist with forwarding luggage as well as local tourist information. Numazu Club was awarded the title of a Michelin Guide hotel in 2024.

I highly coming to stay as a family or as a couple to celebrate a special occasion. This is also the ideal relaxing spot to take some time out to work and take in the scenery and relax in your room, in the public bath and take a short walk to the beach from the hotel.

You know what I learned while here ? These little doors/windows were deliberately kept this small to make more of a grand entrance to a high ceiling’ed tea room but also so that noone visiting these spaces without removing a sword. I highly recommend asking for a tour of the tea house.

I love sharing cozy hotel rooms when they are a bit “lived in” and messed up. I think anyone can find pictures of beautifully styled rooms online, anywhere, but you can just tell how beautiful this room is -even with the covers all scrunched up and pulled back. Numazu Club.

Numazu Club provides pyjamas for use in the hotel and a little tote bag so they are perfect to wear to and from the onsen as well.

I have written an article for those who don’t feel naked being in an onsen here.

The beautiful in-room bathroom

I fell in love with this toiletry brand while I was staying at Numazu Club (they have the same options in the public baths too.). The brand is called Uka. The moisturizer and the conditioner were especially stunning.
This moisturizer (brand name “Uka”) is so light but made my skin feel so so so soft.
I wish I could add a “inhale this” button here as the wood in here smells so so so good. This is the in-room bathroom at Numazu Club.

And of course there is a beautiful Japanese toilet in the bathroom.

The restaurant at Numazu Club
The teahouse is the high end Chinese restaurant by night and then the breakfast restaurant in the morning.

Breakfast at Numazu Club is a set course – including grilled fish (not pictured here.)

This is the car I rented to drive to Numazu from Tokyo. I used booking.com to rent this car – picked it up in Ikebukuro and drove it to Numazu and then back. I’ve written in detail what it is like to drive in Japan here.
See here for info on booking a private driver if you would like to explore Japan by car but prefer to not be the driver, yourself.

A playground near Numazu Club -7 mins walk or 1 min drive
On the edge of the beach is Sembonhama Park. There is a little playground here – lots of greenery for hide and seek. Apparently this park was used for a Pocari Sweat drink ad in Japan not too long ago. This park is one of the most popular local spots for cherry blossom viewing in the spring.
If driving to the park it’s easiest to park at the beach and walk back for a minute or two.

If you are looking for a water play spot near here for small kids, I recommend putting Mon Pond into google maps. It is 19 mins drive from Numazu Club. Open every year for splashing and fun from July 19-Sept 20 from 10am. There are public restrooms here but no change rooms so it is best to wear swimmers under clothing. Lots of local kids take buckets and other water toys. The water play area is on the Kadoike Park side of the pond.

Numazu Fish Market – 12 mins walk from Numazu Club
Although it is not a tourist spot, you can briefly walk past the Numazu Port and check out the fish markets (be careful not to get in anyone’s way though as these are people doing business and working hard.) To try the local fish, walk a little further on to the Fish Market Restaurant District – very casual.

The closest convenience store to Numazu Club is 7-Eleven – 8 mins walk or 2 mins in the car
